BIO

Dorothee Albrecht explores the social, political and artistic spaces, opened up by the radical global transformations of recent times. With the different artistic formats, especially video platforms and spatial installations, arranged as continuing changing and broadening, she tries to make the complexity of these new potentialities graspable. Questioning conventional frameworks and hierarchies she is especially interested in relations between different cultural perspectives and their mutual dependencies.

Albrecht's works have been shown for example at Times Art Center Berlin (2021), at KINDL – Center for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2017 / 2018), at the Kochi Muziris Biennale (2013), the Sao Paulo Biennial 2010, the Guangzhou Triennial 2008, the Rooseum in Malmo, the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, GfzK Leipzig and the Palazzo delle Papesse in Siena.

She was co-curator of The Ultimate Capital is the Sun – Metabolism in Contemporary Art, Politics, Philosophy and Science (nGbK, Berlin, 2014), of Other Possible Worlds – Proposals on this Side of Utopia (nGbK, Berlin, 2011) and of the Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (2011).

Albrecht is a founding member of UNWETTER, the Discursive Picnic, the Kunsthalle Berlin-Lichtenberg, Dreams of Art Spaces Collected and World Wide Weaving.

She is based in Berlin.
