BIO
With ongoing performative movements, Dorothee Albrecht has been investigating the social the social, political and artistic spaces opened up by the fundamental planetary changes. The artistic formats Dwelling on the Move, Video Atlas and Poster Atlas, are designed for constant change and expansion and attempt to make the complexity of these new constellations comprehensible. Conventional reference systems and hierarchies are called into question. She is particularly interested in different cultural perspectives and their interdependencies.
Another line of movement in her work leads to site-specific assemblages such as Tea Pavilion, House of Ruins, House of Uncertainties, Clubs of the Future, Assemblages of the Future and Umwelt Club.
Albrecht's artistic works have been shown, for example, as part of CLUBS der ZUKUNFT / CLUBS of the FUTURE, OTTO-Halle (Haus der Statistik) and Kunstverein am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin (2024), at the Times Art Center Berlin (2021), at KINDL - Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst, Berlin (2018), at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2012/2013, São Paulo Biennale 2010, the Guangzhou Triennale 2008, the Rooseum in Malmo, the Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin, GfzK Leipzig and the Palazzo delle Papesse in Siena.
She was a member of the curatorial team of The Ultimate Capital is the Sun - Metabolism in contemporary art, politics, philosophy and science (nGbK) and Other Possible Worlds - Entwürfe diesseits von Utopia (nGbK), co-curator of the Gothenburg Biennale 2011 and co-initiator of the collaborative projects Kunsthalle Berlin-Lichtenberg, Dreams of Art Spaces Collected and World Wide Weaving. In 2024, with the support of the Capital Cultural Fund (HKF), she expanded her artistic project CLUBS der ZUKUNFT / CLUBS of the FUTURE into a large-scale research platform with two exhibitions and numerous events.
She is based in Berlin.
